Individual Therapy
Children, adolescents, and adults can meet one-on-one with a professional therapist to address a variety of emotional, cognitive, or behavioral problems.

Family Therapy
Whenever there are problems in the home, family therapy can be an extremely powerful intervention to bring about positive change.

Marriage Counseling
There are a number of therapists at the center who can help couples communicate more effectively, reduce conflict, and increase emotional intimacy.

Group Therapy
The specific groups offered at the center change, so please call if you are interested in a group.

Medication Management
Given the shortage of psychiatrists in Iowa, the mental health center is extremely fortunate to have a psychiatrist and a physician assistant who prescribe medication. They work with people to answer their medication questions and make sure their medications are effective.

Grinnell College
All Grinnell College students are allowed 8 visits to the mental health center each year (July through June) for medication management or individual, group, or couples therapy at no charge to the student. After the 8th session, their insurance is billed. In addition, mental health center therapists go onto campus to staff a walk-in clinic aimed at crisis intervention and meeting immediate mental health needs. Grinnell College staff are allowed 5 visits each year at no charge until insurance is billed. This arrangement is a unique relationship between a college and a mental health center, but it has been quite beneficial to both organizations. The relationship allows students access to a variety of therapists with a range of skills and interests. It also provides students with psychiatric services that otherwise would not be as readily available. The center benefits in that it gives staff members the option to work with young, bright college students in addition to the already broad array of clients usually seen at a mental health center.

Grinnell-Newburg Public Schools
As part of a state block grant, a therapist goes to Grinnell Middle School, the High School, and the Alternative High School of the Grinnell-Newburg Public School System.

Nursing Homes
The mental health center's psychiatrist, physician assistant, and psychiatric nurse travel to area nursing homes to provide care for their residents.

Diamond Life Health Care
The mental health center's psychiatrist, physician assistant, and psychiatric nurse travel to this residential facility for medication management.

Mental Health Clinic of Tama County
The psychiatrist and psychiatric nurse are contracted to this rural clinic for one day a week.

Emergency Services
During business hours and after hours, emergency services can be accessed by calling (641) 236-6137. During business hours, there are 10:00 am and 2:00 pm appointment slots available to assist individuals who are suicidal, homicidal, or might be in need of psychiatric hospitalization. After hours, on-call staff are available for emergencies. If you call the mental health center and follow the prompts, the therapist on-call will promptly return your call.

Station Clubhouse
The Station Clubhouse is located on Pearl Street. Members of the Clubhouse have been diagnosed with a severe and persistent mental illness and benefit from extra socialization and support services. The Clubhouse is operated as a partnership between center staff and members of the Clubhouse with staff providing on-site support.
