Executive Director
Myke Selha, LISW, MSW has worked in mental health for over 15 years and brings several years of experience in directing non-profit organizations. Selha has served the Center for the past three years as a clinical social worker as well as its Therapy Director.  He earned a B.A. in Religious Studies and American Indian Studies from Iowa State University and an M.S.W. from the University of Iowa. He also completed a post-graduate residency in Pastoral Counseling and Psychotherapy. Myke is President for the Iowa Chapter of the National Association of Social Workers.

 

Medical Staff

Casie Riney, PA-C is a physician assistant and the PCMHC medical director. She attended Des Moines University where she received her Master of Science degree in Physician Assistant Studies. She is certified by the National Commission for Certification of Physician Assistants and licensed by the state of Iowa to practice medicine. She works in collaboration and as a team with her supervising physician, Dr. Van Cleve. She has worked at the Poweshiek County Mental Health Center since 2005. Although her areas of specialization are patients with depression and chronic mental illness, she treats all age groups and mental health diagnoses.

Vicki Cushman, LPN is a nurse at the mental health center. She gets weights and takes blood pressures of all clients seen by Dr. Van Cleve and Casie. Vicki receives and returns most of the phone calls for the medical staff, answering medication questions and concerns. She also assists with medication refills and communicates with pharmacies and insurance companies about medication authorization.

Laura Van Cleve, D.O. is a contracted psychiatrist. She is a doctor of osteopathy and a board certified psychiatrist with a background in biological psychiatry. Dr. Van Cleve's areas of specialization include psychopharmacology and adolescent and child psychiatry.

 

Therapy Staff

Larry Anderson, LISW, ACSW, is a clinical social worker who has worked in mental health for over 25 years.  He received his BA in Social Work at the University of Northern Iowa and his Master in Social Work degree at St. Louis University.  He works half-time at the mental health center and is also in private practice in Ankeny and Newton.  His clinical interests include treatment of relationship problems, mood and anxiety disorders, personality disorders, co-occurring disorders, and serious and persistent mental illnesses.  He uses a variety of therapy approaches including cognitive-behavioral, solution-focused, and interpersonal therapies.

Jana Brown, LISW is originally from Chicago. She received her Bachelor’s Degree in Social Work and Psychology from the University of Iowa and her Master’s Degree in Social Work from St. Ambrose University with a specialization in school social work. She worked at Lutheran Services of Iowa with children in foster care and at a nursing home where she met with residents, their families and the care center staff to discuss treatment plans and personal concerns, as well as discussed end-of-life issues with the families of hospice residents. Ms. Brown worked as an Assistant Teacher with the Head Start Program for two years. She also interned as a school social worker for one year in the Rock Island/Milan School District. Ms. Brown enjoys working with children, teenagers, young adults, and families. Her theoretical approach is based on a combination of systemic, client-centered, and strengths-based approaches.

Megan Hasenwinkel, PsyD is a licensed psychologist who has lived most of her life in Iowa and is an alumni of Drake University. She received her doctorate in Clinical Psychology from Indiana State University and has worked at the VA in Knoxville. She has interests in the areas of serious mental illness, logotherapy, motivational interviewing, as well as cognitive-behavioral therapy for anxiety and mood disorders. She also has interests in the areas of personality and intellectual assessment.

Kristin O'Conner-Sherrets, LMHC, NCC has been with the mental health center since 2008. She began her experience in the field by providing counseling at a crisis center, and also co-facilitated a support group for individuals who have lost loved ones to suicide. Kristin earned her B.A. degree in Psychology and English from Coe College in Cedar Rapids. She then went on to pursue an M.A. degree in Mental Health Counseling from the University of Northern Iowa, where she completed an internship working with students at the college counseling center. She is the Web Coordinator for the Iowa Mental Health Counselors Association. Kristin is especially passionate about working with students, and specifically on academic, social, and developmental issues. She also enjoys working with adolescents, adults, and the geriatric population. Kristin's areas of interest/specialization include issues related to depression, anxiety, grief/loss, sexual orientation, gender identity, cultural diversity, interpersonal relationships, and trauma.

Amanda Johnson Ph.D. began working at the center in August for a one-year post-doctoral position. She is an Iowa native and a graduate of Central College in Pella, Iowa. She earned her Ph.D. from the State University of New York at Buffalo in Counseling Psychology. Her areas of interest/specialization include PTSD, grief and loss, chronic pain management, gender identity, multicultural issues, and poetry/creative therapies. She also has experience working with couples, those with anxiety disorders, adjustment disorders, and depression. She has trained and worked in a variety of settings including a VA hospital, a college counseling center, a rape crisis center, and a VA psychosocial rehabilitation and recovery center for veterans with serious mental illness. Her therapeutic orientation is an integrative approach centered on the client that is influenced by cognitive and dialectical behavioral therapies, logotherapy, and psychodynamic therapy.

Landi Smith, LISW is a Spanish/English bilingual clinical social worker. She received her BA in International Studies from DePaul University. She received her Master in Social Work from Arizona State University. During her graduate program she received training at the VA PTSD Clinic and in the community with Spanish-speaking migrants. She began her clinical social work career in Tucson, AZ at a crisis center. Landi is especially passionate about working with college-age people, new mothers, immigrants, and Spanish speakers. Her areas of interest/specialization include multicultural issues, PTSD, holistic approaches to trauma, depression, anxiety, substance abuse and dependency, and chronic mental illness. She uses a client-centered strengths-based approach, often integrating cognitive-behavioral techniques and connecting her clients to resources in the community.

Amanda Murray, MA is originally from California, where she received her B.A. in Psychology and Philosphy from UC Berkely. She is a graduate student at the University of Iowa, where she completed her M.A. in Clinical Psychology and anticipates receiving her PhD in Fall, 2011. She recently finished her clinical internship at VA Central Iowa and has experience conducting therapy and testing with veterans, students, couples, families, and children. Her therapeutic orientation is primarily behavioral with an emphasis on Acceptance and Commitment Therapy techniques. Her treatment approach focuses on the importance of client values and helping clients to access social support and other protective resources. 

 

Station Clubhouse Staff

Julie Andrews helps Clubhouse members through activities such as monitoring the medication compliance, money management, problem resolution, and providing them with transportation.

Betty Stepp helps Clubhouse members through activities such as monitoring the medication compliance, money management, problem resolution, and providing them with transportation.

Julie Wendl is the director of the Clubhouse. She is involved in developing programming for Clubhouse members, conducting group psychoeducation, and leading the Clubhouse Advisory Council.

 

Administrative Staff

Sixta Hernandez is our Office Services Support Specialist. She uses her knowledge of technology and communication skills to prepare, store and retrieve clinical records. She has a BA in Marketing and Management from the Inter American University of Puerto Rico. She is a back up to the Receptionist--answering the phone, collecting payments, and updating client information. Sixta is available to interpret for our Spanish speaking clients.

Ann Standerwick is our records specialist. She has been on our staff for over 20 years. She answers the phone, schedules appointments, and does filing.
